Boys, today we are going to learn about "Apostrophe" which is a punctuation mark for the following:
* To show possession or belonging. ( David's dog )
* To shorten a word/contractions ( cannot - can't )
We have done contractions in class 2 as well.

8.5.20               Apostrophe
Apostrophe ( ' ) is used as a punctuation mark to:
* Show possession or belonging. 
Eg. This is my sister's book.
The sentence above shows that the book BELONGS to my sister.

*Shorten a word.
Eg. Did not - didn't OR will not - won't
The examples above show that the words "did not" and "will not" can be SHORTENED to "didn't" OR "won't" by using an apostrophe.

Q 3. What are the two main parts of a plant?
Ans. The two main parts of a plant are the root system that grows under the ground and the shoot system that grows above the ground.

Q 4. What are the two different kinds of roots?
Ans. There are two types of roots:
a. tap root - It has a long main root at the end of the stem, and many small side roots growing from the main root.
b. fibrous root - Number of thin roots growing from the end of the stem are called the fibrous roots.

Draw a picture of a tap root and a fibrous root on the blank page. See page 163 for reference.
