Ans. The following are the functions of roots:
a. They hold the plant firmly to the ground.
b. They take in water and mineral salts from the ground.
Q 6. What are the parts of the shoot system?
Ans. The shoot system consists of the stem, leaves, branches, buds, flowers, fruits and seeds.
Q 7. What is photosynthesis? What does a plant need for it?
Ans. The process by which leaves prepare food for the plant in the presence of sunlight is called photosynthesis.
A plant requires water, minerals and carbon - di - oxide for photosynthesis.
